In a shocking revelation
here, former Indian team physio Ali Irani admitted to have acted as a
conduit for a number of cricketers, and not just Azharuddin, during his
tenure with the Indian side.
He is alleged to have said that bags
would be delivered to his room by bellboys and then the cricketers would
come to his room and collect them.
He didn’t mention whether he was aware
of the contents of the cases.
Irani was found guilty by the CBI and was
also subsequently declared guilty by the anti –corruption commissioner
K.Madhavan, who called him a conduit between bookmakers and the match
fixing cricketers.
He was banned by the BCCI from taking up
further assignments (as physiotherapist), which he plans to appeal
against.
"They (BCCI) are like parents,"
he pleaded.
He denied that he was a conduit, saying
he only carried messages to the team members and also sometimes the BCCI.
"Why should I fix matches for Rs
60,000 as has been alleged, when the boys (cricketers) out of respect and
appreciation used to share their prize and also logo money," he
countered and informed that he had earned as much as Rs. 20 lakhs from his
10 year stint as physio of the Indian cricket team.
He also affirmed that he showed these
earnings in his income sheet to Madhavan. |
