The Indian cricket Board has
served a notice on the five players named in the CBI report on betting and
match-fixing to appear before its Disciplinary Committee in Calcutta on
November 28, following an internal inquiry conducted by its watchdog K
Madhavan.
The cricketers - Mohammed Azharuddin,
Ajay Jadeja, Ajay Sharma, Manoj Prabhakar and Nayan Mongia - have been
warned that if they fail to appear before the Committee on the stipulated
date and time, the Committee will proceed against them ex-parte on the
basis of the available records, evidence and reports, Board sources said
today.
They have also been told that no other
person, including a lawyer, would be allowed to be with them when they
appear before the three-member committee comprising BCCI President A C
Muthiah and two Vice-Presidents, Ram Prasad and C K Khanna.
The Board, in its notice, said the
players, however, were free to furnish further explannation in respect of
the findings of CBI and Madhavan.
The Board would be sending to the
concerned players a copy each of the Madhavan report as well as the CBI
report by tomorrow.
The Disciplinary Committee would
recommend to the Board's Special General Body, convened for November 29 in
Calcutta, the action to be taken against the players on the basis of the
two reports and submissions they make before it (Disciplinary Committee). |
