South Africa has to work hard for their five wicket victory win over New Zealand in the three Tests series.

Chasing 100 runs to win on the last day of the test match, South Africa lost their five wickets but Mark Boucher stopped the slide, slamming three successive fours off leg-spinner Brooke Walker to take South Africa past the target of just 101 runs. New Zealand fast bowler Daryl Tuffy took his first Test wickets, finishing with second-innings figures of three for 38. Boucher finished undefeated on 22 off just 11 deliveries, and Neil McKenzie was with him at the close on 13.

Earlier, Makhaya Ntini was the main destroyer of the New Zealand innings as he took a Test best six for 66 to dismiss them for 342. Ntini's figures surpassed his previous best haul of four for 72 against England at Leeds in 1998. It was a sustained burst of hostile fast bowling which helped him wrap up New Zealand's tail. He took the last three wickets for the addition of just two runs.

South Africa had a bad start as they lost Gary Kirsten (1), Kallis and Dippenaar for 55. At the crease at tea were Cullinan on 18 and McKenzie on three. There was more trouble for South Africa after tea, as Cullinan and Klusener fell as the score limped on to 75. But then came Boucher.
