Pakistan
have recalled Waqar Younis and dropped Mushtaq Ahmed for the 2nd Test
against England in Faisalabad on Wednesday.
Mushtaq has been left out after taking 1-164 in the 1st Test in Lahore, a
performance which continued a difficult recent run for the leg-spinner,
who has taken just 27 wickets in his past 13 Tests.
His place is likely to go to either Waqar or teenage leg-spinner Danish
Kaneria, who narrowly missed out on making his debut in Lahore.
Waqar, with 308 Test wickets in 67 Tests, was left out of the initial 14
for the 1st Test, but will play in Faisalabad if the pitch looks likely to
offer more pace. If selected he will renew his partnership with Wasim
Akram, who will be making his 100th Test appearance in the match.
Wasim Bari, chief selector, said: "Mushtaq disappointed in the 1st
Test and Kaneria is included as we want to groom youngsters in the home
series."
Off-spinner Arshad Khan also returns to the squad but all-rounder Azhar
Mahmood will miss the rest of the series after twisting his ankle in
practice on Friday.
Pakistan Squad: Moin Khan (capt.), Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar,
Shahid Afridi, Salim Elahi, Yousuf Youhana, Abdur Razzaq, Wasim Akram,
Danish Kaneria, Saqlain Mushtaq, Arshad Khan, Imran Nazir, Qaisar Abbas,
Waqar Younis and Faisal Iqbal. |
